The Journal of Neurological and Orthopaedic
Medicine and Surgery is a peer reviewed
journal.
We will soon have available
an online submission portal in which
Manuscripts and Letters to the Editor must
be submitted through our electronic
manuscript submission website. Please note
that once we go live, we will no longer
accept hard copies of manuscripts or
figures.
Until such time, the manuscript
and all figures must be submitted in
triplicate (3) hardcopy along with an
electronic copy (on CD) to the Editor-in-Chief:
Kazem Fathie, MD
10 Cascade Creek Lane
Las Vegas, NV 89113
Phone: (702) 388-7390
Papers must be in English and
include a cover sheet with the following
information:
1) Title of paper, with
shortened version for page headings (not to
exceed 75 characters). The title of the
paper should provide sufficient information
to allow readers to judge the relevance of a
paper to their interest.
2) Full names including
academic degrees, mailing addresses, email
addresses and phone numbers of the
corresponding author and co-authors.
3) Cover Letter stating that
the manuscript has not been previously
published in whole or in part or submitted
elsewhere for review with full original
signatures of all authors and co-authors
authorizing publication. Include any sources
of financial support or conflict of
interest.
4) All Figures and Tables
as separate files. Low-resolution
figures (maximum 150 dpi) in TIFF, JPG, or
GIF format ONLY for new submissions.
Tables should be contained in ONE
Microsoft Word file. Figures and Tables
should NOT be embedded in the
manuscript file..
Manuscript Preparation:
A copy of the manuscript
should be submitted in electronic format
using Microsoft Word in .doc format.
Manuscripts should be typed neatly, on one
side of the paper only, double-spaced, with
wide margins (at least one inch). Paper
should be 8 ½ X 11m and should not be
erasable typing paper, which is difficult to
copyedit. The form and contents of the
manuscript should be carefully checked, and
it should be submitted in its final form to
exclude the need of extensive corrections
(correctness of spelling, grammar, and
typing is the responsibility of the author).
The editors reserve the right to edit
accepted manuscripts.
Any questions regarding
formatting which are not fully covered by
these instructions should be referred to
"Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts
Submitted to Biomedical Journals"
(International Committed on Medical Journal
Editors, Annals o f Internal Medicine 1988:
108:258-65). The Journal strongly encourages
authors to submit electronically prepared
manuscripts in Microsoft word (PC). Follow
the instructions section set forth here
exactly; if, for example, the reference
section is incorrectly styled, the value of
the electronic submission will be reduced. A
double-spaced hard copy of the manuscript
must accompany the software.
Arrangement of Text
Abstract: The abstract should not exceed
150 words and should describe briefly and in
complete sentences the purpose of the
investigations, the methods utilized, the
results obtained and the authors principal
conclusions.
Key Words: Up to five
significant words from the document should
be chosen for use in indexing the article's
content.
Introduction: State
briefly the nature and purpose of the
article and refer to any relevant
literature, concentrating on any recent
important work done by others. The
repetition of information in the
Introduction and Discussion sections is
undesirable.
Materials and Methods:
Include details of clinical and technical
procedures.
Results: Results
should be clearly and concisely presented,
without comment, in text, tables, and
figures, avoiding redundant methods of
presentation as much as possible.
Discussion: Explain
your results and define their significance
for clinical practice. Unsubstantiated
speculations and plans for future study are
not appropriate.
References: Cite only
essential references that are also referred
to in the text. References should be listed
in the sequence that they appear in the body
of the text identified by bracketed numbers.
References to articles in journals should be
given as follows: names of all authors (with
initials), title of paper with only initial
letter of initial word capitalized,
abbreviated journal name using Index Medicus
form followed by volume number and the first
and last page o f the article. Journal title
abbreviations should be taken from the first
section of Index Medicus, which appears in
each cumulated volume under the heading
"Subject Index". Titles should be cited as
they existed at the time of publication. For
example: Morton SH, Schoenfeld K. Total body
trace elements and lean body mass in young
adults. Calcium Res 1989;35:355-369. Books
referenced should appear as follows:
author's last name with initials, title of
the book, city of publication, publisher,
year of publication, and page numbers. For
example: Jones F, Williams PK. Practical
hematology. New York: JONOMS, Las Vegas, NV
1996; 102-106.
Special Concerns Tables:
Tables should have a title and an
explanatory footnote explaining any
abbreviations used. Tables should be typed
on separate sheets and designated by Arabic
numerals.
Figures: Figures
should be kept to a minimum. The additional
cost for reproducing and printing large
numbers of figures or color illustrations
will be charged to the author. Figure
legends should be typed on a separate page.
Abbreviations: All
abbreviations should be spelled out when
first used in the text, e.g., sinus
pericranii (SP).
Footnotes: Footnotes
should be placed at the foot of the page on
which they appear and should be numbered
consecutively throughout the article.
Experimental subjects:
For clinical studies, patients should be
described in detail (i.e., age, race, and
sex). In experiments involving possible
discomfort to the patient(s), it should be
stated that informed consent was obtained
from the subject(s). Safeguards for the
protection of the rights of minors and
mentally defective subjects should be
stated. In the text, tables, and figures of
the manuscript, patients should be
identified by number of serial letter rather
than by initials or names. Photographs of
patient's faces should be included only if
scientifically relevant and the identity of
the patient should be concealed by masking.
Authors should obtain written consent from
patients for use of such photographs.
Copyright Submission
of a manuscript implies that the work has
not been previously published, nor is it
under consideration for publication
elsewhere. Also, any co-authors must approve
the article for publication; if the
manuscript is accepted for publication, the
author(s) agree to automatic transfer of the
copyright to the publisher. This quarterly
journal publishes original articles, case
reports, topical reviews of the literature,
"how-to" articles, and mini-reviews in
orthopedic medicine and surgery, emphasizing
pain and pain management. Copyright:
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the
work described has not been published before
(except in the form of an abstract or as
part of a published lecture, review, or
thesis); that it is not under consideration
for publication elsewhere; that its
publication has been approved by all
co-authors, if any, as well as by the
responsible authorities at the institute
where the work has been carried out; that if
and when the manuscript is accepted for
publication, the authors agree to automatic
transfer of the copyright to the publisher;
that the manuscript will not be published
elsewhere in any language without the
consent of the copyright holders; and that
written permission of the copyright holder
is obtained by the authors for material used
from other copyrighted sources.
