American Board of Medical Accreditation

     Mission Statement

The ABMA is an organization for medical specialty boards. It is the mission of ABMA to assess the quality of medical specialty boards and accredit these boards if the standards of ABMA are met. Therefore, in so doing, ABMA's mission will improve the quality of medical care. ABMA will assess the professional and educational standards required by each candidate for the specialty board prior to qualifying for certification. The certification of physicians is intended to provide assurance that a specialist certified by a medical board with ABMA has successfully completed the approved educational program and qualifying process to assure sufficient knowledge, skills and experience required to provide quality care in that specialty. The evaluation process requires an examination designed to assess knowledge, skill and experience. The ABMA's mission is to evaluate and assess the activities of medical and surgical boards and provide appropriate accreditation and assurance to the public that high standards have been achieved for specialization and certification in medicine. If these high standards are met, then and only then, will the medical board seeking ABMA seal of approval become a member of American Board of Medical Accreditation.
